Default Tapping the rev limiter

Hey guys.........I'm still a green Stang owner........How safe is it if you tap the rev limiter? I mean, I guess that's what it's for but I've tapped it a couple of times this week. Also, my '02 GT has 71K miles.......Do these engines do well when taking a beating at those miles? Anyone ever experience any power loss due to high miles? I've always heard that we don't generally need to change out plugs til 100K miles. How would I know if I need to do that? Is there a code for that? Sorry I keep asking so many questions, I'm just curious.......Any advise?? Thanks!!!!

Default RE: Tapping the rev limiter

I would recommend staying away from the rev limiter... just not a good idea to bounce off of it.

Your stock block and rotating assembly can only take so much stress, hence the rev limiter. While Ford sets a rev limiter that is actually able to handle more, I wouldn't recommend stressing the motor like that. As for sparks, if you really want to know, pull em out and look at em, see the wear, (You can find pics of what 'bad' plugs look like online somewhere, or in a Hanes Manual). Anyhow, 100K is about what the stock plugs are good for, if they are platinum, Just replace em at 100k, its simple as that :-p
