i skip from 1st to 3rd to 5th if I'm trying to pull out onto a big road while there's cars coming. I do this because in first I just accelerate really fast to catch up to the speed of the cars coming my way and when I put it in 3rd I drive normally.

I sometimes hit it hard, outta a light or parking lot, not launchin spinning tires but i let ppl know i drive a v8. Neways i usually speed up real fast and hit the designated speed limit and 5 over then i skip the gears to an appropriate gear. Like if i am going 40 i drop it into 4th for awhile till i see what traffic is like then i drop it into 5th or 30 i drop into 3rd because i have found when i drop it into 3rd for 30 or 4th with 40 you still have decent pick up to roll with the pack around15-1700 rpms and my car picks up quite nicely there. But when i know no one is gonna be a jerk off i will drop it into 5th lower the rpms around 1000 and cruise cause i like to save gas when its 3.01 a gallon.

Say that i am driving down the street going 35 mph, if i put it in 5th gear at 35, the rpm's are probably around 1k or so, does that actually make a difference in gas mileage and isn't it bad to cruise at low rpm's?

Honestly I dont think skipping a gears hurts anything.. I mean.. you dont shift from 5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd when your in a spot you have to slow way down (like say rolling up on a stop light that goes from a 55 to a 25 zone..)

I believe some of the GM manuals MAKE you skip shift from the factory.
