well it sounds like it. Take the pulley off, and look at the seal it will be right there, if it is wet with oil and oil is comin out of it, that's your problem. there is a slim chance it could be the front cover too, but i'd put money on the main seal

ORIGINAL: monkeydude3

you pull the crank pulley off. Look at the shaft, it's the seal in the front cover. And no you should not have to drop the pan, i checked all data and shopkey and you just need a seal remover and then a piece of pipe the size of the new seal to tap it in.

Sweet, sounds pretty easy..

Most cars I've done required the pan to be removed..

Oh, and if you don't have a pipe, anything large/cylindrical that can take a beating will do...

yep! The modular engine is good in terms of that, the main seals are set up from the oil pan. I was super happy when I found that out cuz my rear maine was really easy then too. I'd rather do those seals rather than the ones I have to... valve seals, that's where my fuggin oil is goin... stupid valve seals lmao

the rear main is in a wonderful place. Right behind the flywheel, so the transmission and clutch and flywheel must come off to get at it!

I only replaced it because i was rebuilding my trans and putting in a clutch at the time... have fun with that one lol

It says in the installation instructions to permatex the Keyway on the crank and pulley. Did you put permatex in the keyway then put in the key then permatex the top of the key then put on the pulley. Make sure it is clean and dry (silicone and oil dont mix).
