Gutting the cat....
im wanting to take the cat.'s off of my car but i dont want it to be so loud that it is obvious that its illegal, will it be really loud, and can i expect to gain any HP off of this?
.......I have catback flowmasters right now |
RE: Gutting the cat....
Don't bother, its gonna create a disturbance in the exhaust flow. Just buy a new midpipe, off road(non catted) or a high flow catted midpipe.

RE: Gutting the cat....
how would it mess up the flow, wouldnt it ease up the flow?

RE: Gutting the cat....
you need a new pipe, i had my car with a slp x, no cats, and the stock muflers, is not that loud, the mid pipe gives give a different "tone" to the sound, the rest depends on the cat back, and also you will need MIL eliminators, so your "check angine light" dont goes off, and you can pass the inspection, i just passed mine and i dont have cats :D

RE: Gutting the cat....
where do you live? if you need to have emission testing done, you can't go with an o/r midpipe. get a midpipe with highflow cats. they are much better than the stock ones. you'll see an increase in HP (may not feel), you'll keep it legal, and it won't be obnoxiously loud

RE: Gutting the cat....
Me and my buddy both got all 4 cats cut out, then 2hi flows put in. They made a huge difference. Too bad they are like $80/$90 a piece.

I live in Cincinnati OH and we dont have E-checks anymore.

RE: Gutting the cat....
A gutted cat will cause turbulance in the exhaust flow, the shape is not smooth. Gutting the cats will actually hurt performance 9 out of 10 times.

RE: Gutting the cat....
If a catted mid-pipe is too expensive...
Buy a cheap o/r mid-pipe and put 2 cheap highflow cats on. You'll spend less than $220 for it all if you shop around... |
