Default New Mustang

Just bought a used 2002 Mustang GT black convertable auto (it was all that they had) and i got it dirt cheap 17,000 at a ford dealership. Can't believe how much the prices went up in 1998 i bought a Mustang GT and it was 18,000 new. Anyways i was wondering if there is anything that i can do to make it go faster then it allready is without too much money (gonna race, for fun). Thanks. Later

That and underdrive pulleys and a chip (good bang for your buck) if its in your price range.

Gears...I prefer 3.73's but 4.10's are fine
Throttle Body and Plenum
K&N Air filter and/or FIPK or similar
That should be under $1000

Well thats not so dirt cheap really. I bought my premium Gt which is a coupe with 30000 miles on it and its a 5 speed for 15000. Thats not bad. Your retail on yours (and im assuming it has about 25000 miles on it) is 19000. So they met you about half way. With a little more research you could have found one with a 5 speed, which makes all the difference in a sports car.

jdaniel....... This really isn't the place to talk about how much cheaper you got your car.

BlueAngel.. CONGRATS! I bet she looks all kinds of sweet! Get some pics on here.

I think the best thing you can do is a transgo shift kit and a higher RPM stall... it will make your tranny better than most 5 speeds and you can have fully manual control over shifting. The shift kit is going to be my 2nd mod after CAI. I will give you what I'm most likely going to do and you can use that as a guidline if you like. I've spent the last couple weeks reading every single thread, but there are guys that have been doing that for years... they're awesome.

1. Cheap CAI ($70) For looks mostly
2. TransGo shift kit
3. Cat-Back Exhaust (Mac, Magnaflow)
4. Catted X-pipe (Bassani or Magnaflow)
5. Under drive pullies
6. 3.73's
7. Bigger MAF
8. Intake Plenum
9. Bigger TB
10. Torque converter
11. Stage II PI head swap (you don't have to worry about that)

If you can budget about $500 for an upgrade, consider a nitrous kit. A 75-shot is perfectly safe for your engine, and you will get right about 75 extra horses on the bottle.
