Not too surre on the specifics, but the pricipal of it is you set it to am RPM level and then when it hits that RPM it lights up... I mught be wrong im not sure but i think thats how it goes.

Basically it just tells you when to shift so you can keep your eyes on the road instead of the tach. They cost around 80-100 dollars, depending on which brand you get. They go in 100rpm increments up to around 8k, but it may be more. Also, you need to set it for 200-300rpms less than when you shift, this leaves enough time for you to react to it and should put you right where you normally shift at. They are an excellent investment over the stock tach.

But the excitement on the track can cause you to lose your train of thought. So, shift lights are always a good idea.
