Not too surre on the specifics, but the pricipal of it is you set it to am RPM level and then when it hits that RPM it lights up... I mught be wrong im not sure but i think thats how it goes.

yup.. i lets u pay more attention looking outside the vehicle rather then looking at your tach when to shift. you can see it in your perfifial (spl) vision when it lights up. my rapter is in the maile cant wait

Basically it just tells you when to shift so you can keep your eyes on the road instead of the tach. They cost around 80-100 dollars, depending on which brand you get. They go in 100rpm increments up to around 8k, but it may be more. Also, you need to set it for 200-300rpms less than when you shift, this leaves enough time for you to react to it and should put you right where you normally shift at. They are an excellent investment over the stock tach.

any real driver just has to listen to his engine to know when to shift.

+1

But the excitement on the track can cause you to lose your train of thought. So, shift lights are always a good idea.

100% agreed. (Even though I drive an auto...). I still shift it manually sometimes for fun.
