RE: Broken sideview mirror
From Hanes Auto Repair Manual Chapter 11,Section 17:
(Sorry no illustrations, I can try to scan it later)
Step 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
Step 2
Doesn't apply (manual doors)
Step 3
On power window equppied models, pry out armrest switch control plate and disconnect the electrical connections.
(On the top edge of the plastic panel, there is a little notch, use a flat head screwdriver to pry it out, be gentle so you don't rip the fabric part, or scratch the plastic up. That panel is just clipped in. The electrical connectors have 2 or 3 screws, #2 Phillips (normal standard phillips head) and can be unscrewed that way.)
Step 4
Detach retaining screws located behind armrest switch control panel
(2 screws, to the lower point of the armrest, and should be #2 phillips, the screws are closer to the rear of the car under where the cover was just removed)
Step 5
Using a wide putty knife, a thin screwdriver or special trim panel removal too, pry out the plastic retaining clip securing the front edge of the door trim panel.
(As you open the door, look where the back is, under the locking mechinism(SP?) On the door panel there is a little body plug, thats what needs to be pried out.. be patient, its a PITA)
Step 6
Detach side view mirror trim covre by pulling straight out. Some models are equppied with optional door speaker at this location (460 Mach) Pull straight out on the speaker cover, then dtach the speaker retaining screws and remove the speaker assembly from the vehicle.
(You allready must have done this to put the mirror on :P)
Step 7
Once all the clips and screws have been disnegaged, detach the trim panel, disconnect any electrical connectors and remove the trim panel from the vehicle by pulling up and out.
(Pulls up pretty easy, its on like a hook system)
Step 8
For access to the inner door, peel back the watershield, taking care not to tear it. To install the trim panel, first press the watershield back into place. If nessecary, add more sealant to hold it into place. (I've never done this part, so I dont know where to seal it...)
Step 9
Reinstallation is reverse of removal :P
I used this to replace the door speaker in my Mach 1. Hope it helped.Ill try to get images, but I dont know if it'll scan, and I cant take apart my Mach 1 in the dark :P

RE: Broken sideview mirror
I had my driverside window all the way down and was able to fish around to get to where the mirror connects inside the door.
I also popped out the housing that surrounds the inside door handle. That will allow a little more access. GL
dlazrael has some good help there though.

Thanks for the help everyone! Great write-up dlazrael...very helpful! Everything was pretty simple after removing the armrest. I don't know how everyone was able to fish around in there to disconnect the old and reconnect the new. You people must have some pretty small hands!! Anyway, all is well!! Thanks again!!!

RE: Broken sideview mirror
I have a 1997 and the power miror connector is larger than the replacement model I purchased. The current connector has like 6 wires, where the new replacement mirror connector is much smaller and only contains three wires??? Can this replacement mirror be used? lcglaze
