how many psi?

RE: how many psi?
Read the threads. There are several that run 10. However, you're correct. It can do 10, but the lifetime of the motor gets shorter.
Significantly shorter.
Again, without the cooler, it gets shorter, too.

Meebix, that just really bad information. Sorry but even with my knowledge I know you could run 20psi and be safe if you just START the car. Boost doesn't build until you start going. Many people have run 9 10 and even 12 psi on stock motors. I just made a post the other day asking for which brand of forged pistons. I posted on the MPH forums and people over there are doing it and consider it a waste of money if you only wanna make around 400 (which I do). It's all about the tune and how you drive the car. High rpms and detonation are what's going to kill your motor.
I plan on running 9 pounds on a stock engine and looking at my driving habits and the fact that I'm not going to the track, I will be just fine.
From what I understand, the air becomes too hot around 8-9psi so an aftercooler is needed.

No way you are running 9-10 on a stock bottom end without risking blowing the motor every time you start the car.
Keep it at 8 MAX until you get forged.

I run 10 PSI at redline. The car sees about 9.5 on the average run (shift at 6000 RPM)
10 PSI is FINE on a stock bottom end. People run 10 PSI all the time on non intercooled setups. Its ALL in the tune. Get a ****ty tune, and the car goes boom. Get a good tune and you are fine.
The first thing they recommend you buy after your mongoose kit is a power pipe, which usually ups the boost 1-2 PSI. MPH is one of the BEST shops for blower cars in the world. I don't think they have ever lost a motor at 10 PSI unless someone did something stupid.
Over rev and bad tunes kill way more engines than too much boost.
