Rear End Noise

Hello,

I have a 2002 5 spd GT. When shifting from neutral to first, while stopped, their is a very slight bump felt from the rear of the car? To complicate matters the bump is intermittant.

The dealership states that everything is fine.

Have any of you had similar experience?

Secure the front tires from rolling ,lift the rear end off the ground and wiggle the tires back and forth with the trans in gear to try to duplicate the noise. You might try this with each gear to see if it is really in the rear end .Good Luck

I’ve felt something like that before also, not just in my GT but in other manual transmission cars. I remember one time in my old Z28 (can I say Z28 here?), I actually thought the guy behind me had bumped into me. Like you said it’s intermittent, and I’ve only noticed it once in awhile when sitting at a stop in neutral and then going into 1st quickly to get going, and the funny thing is, if your looking for it, it never happens. It like when it does happen, I am like WTF was that. I think it has something to do with slack somewhere getting taken up, sort of gives you the feeling of a little bump from the back. I guess no one else has noticed something like this, but anyway I wouldn’t worry about it. But if your drive shaft falls out tomorrow, I didn’t say anything.
