1997 Mustang Trouble Spots?
Hey guys i plan on purchasing a 97 gt convertible, with 35,800 miles on it, it a nice clean car, but its an automatic, but ill live with that. I was doing some research and noticed a reoccuring problem with the intake manifold cracking on the 4.6. I was just wondering how often does this occur and if anyone has had any experience with this at what miles did this crack?

look at the front of the motor, look for an aluminum crossover right behind the alternator. it has a couple of sensors in the crossover pipe and the thermostat. anyway, if its the black plastic that the whole intake is made out of you WILL replace it eventually. it costs between $500 and $800 depending on where you take it to get it fixed. Or you can do waht I did and buy the intake manifold kit from auto zone for $200 and do it in about 3 hours in your driveway. Best of luck and questions PM me, if you cant tell i just did this about 3 months ago

Yes, that is a reoccurring problem in the 96-98 mustangs. That plastic manifold will crack eventually. It can crack at anytime but if you are spraying nitrous or F/I, it will crack sooner rather than later.

well i'm in for some treats. i have 112000 on mine. So I guess I got a ticking time bomb! Oh yeah at about 80k or so your valve seals will go and you'll burn oil like crazy. That's how mine is. That's why the seals are sitting on my desk, and I'm saving for valve cover gaskets and a few tools!
But dang that is lowwwww milage for the year! sounds like a great base car to play with
