If you've done it before, do it yourself. If you haven't, I'd have it done by pros. Less headaches, warranty, etc.
I'll bet someone $5 that you didn't install yours. if you had, you wouldn't say that.

Nope, I didn't do it myself, and I had mine welded. I don't know how to weld nor do I have a welder. I put a cat-back on my 93 5-0 (not welded, just clamped) and it sucked. Damn pipes kept coming loose no matter how tight the clamps were. When I got my 03 I just had someone else do it. They took care of everything and did a good job. No problems.

Is a catback install a driveway job? or do you have to get it professioanlly done?
It shouldn't take even an hour, even on jackstands in your driveway.

All you need is a good socket set, a sawzall or some way to cut the stock aftercat, the jackstands, and a jack.

I've never heard of needing to weld in a catback. if that were the case, it'd be a huge PITA. it's not hard to do at all if you don't need to weld anything. [&:]

Driveway job.

After doing the midpipe, I actually looked forward to throwing the catback on.

I took the old one off while contemplating the methods for fixing my screwups on the midpipe (15 minutes to drop the old one, if that) and thought the install of the new one was easy once I got my midpipe sorted out (another 60 minutes of work, 30 of which was fighting with the tips [&:] ).

Jacking the car up and lowering it onto the jack stands is the most tedious part of the catback project.

Edit: BTW, this was the first exhaust I have put on in my life. I did have my portable air compressor and $50 air tools and a cordless sawzall to cut the stock pipes behind the mufflers. I used the 15mm socket on the air ratchet and the sawzall for the entire catback install.

By drop the axle, did you just remove the shocks and let it hang, or did you unbolt the CAs too?

Preparation and access are everything. Take the time to get the tools together and make sure you have what you need in terms of jack stands or whatever, and another pair of hands wouldn't hurt! You can do it!
