Default Tail Shaft Seal ?

Newbie here, got a great deal on a 96 GT, but I'm told the Tail Shaft Seal needs to be replaced. What the heck is it? Ford tells me the part will be in early next week. Can I drive it until the part arrives, or should I park it and be safe?

Why not ask Ford? They should be able to tell you.

the tailshaft is the part of the tranny that sticks out the back (tail) and is what the drive shaft attaches to. How much is it leaking? if its just a few drips you can drive it, anything more i would park it.

The tailshaft leaked in my 02 GT.

Have fun overpaying for such a simple replacement. Shouldn't take any longer than 45 minutes and I bet you are going to pay $300 plus to have this done.

As long as it's not dripping handfulls of tranny fluid daily, just keep it topped off and don't worry about it until yo uhave the job done.

Thanks for the advice. Dealer says it should be ok to drive until the part gets in next week (how can th edealer not have the part? Ford is the worst for keeping things in stock). $460 to fix the seal, change sway bar bushings and replace a parking brake cable.
