Default 1999 GT > 1999 Cobra?

I recently went to a Ford dealership showing interest in a few 99+ GT's they had...And when I asked the dealer about a 99' Cobra, he told me something interesting...

Supposedly some time a while back, a bunch of a new 99 Cobras and 99 GT's were at a drag strip, and the guys with the GT's (Bone stock) decided to run the Cobras just for the heck of it...And it turns out that every GT swept every Cobra on the quarter mile. I guess Ford initiated a recall to fix the Cobras, which explains why they weren't produced in 2000 (with the exception of the Cobra-R).

What have you guys heard of this?

they made 305hp so they where given new computer calibration, intake manifolds and cat-backs to make the claimed 320hp. It was 2002 they where not made.

yes your right they were not made in 2000 to sort that problem out. 99 cobras are usually ~.5 sec faster than a 99 gt, so if it was a "pre-fix" cobra it could be beaten by a gt, there are many other factors as well such as driver skill.

300hp still i dont see how a GT would take one down....

the cobra returned in 2001.Only a handful of Cobras were madein 2002, and they were all shipped to Australia, where they were converted to right-hand drive, and side marker lights and another set of fog lamps were set inside the front bumper.

Torque curves, live axle, driver skill...

Wrong, they did the Cobra R this year instead of the regular Cobras. They wouldn't cancel production entirely for a year to fix a minor problem with the advertised horsepower numbers.
