noisy shifter
I can't help but notice every time I ride around my 2000 GT 5spd, there is some kind of rolling or winding noise coming from my shifter. I don't know if it is coming from the shifter itself or the synchro, but it gets very loud at certain RPMs (usually the higher RPMs). Also when doing more than 110mph, the shifter shakes violently and makes a really loud rattiling noise. any ideas what it could be? BTW I just took a look at my short-throw shifter. It is just a peice of aluminum that has an engraving that says "forged" on it, nothing fancy no other color paint. Does anyone know which shifter this is?

RE: noisy shifter
tri-ax, the handle at least, if you pull up the sealing gasket and look towards the front of the car, usually the short throw company engraves their name on the front of the shifter..
My tri-ax doesnt really whine, but it does start to rattle a bit at high speeds/revs, With short throws gear noise is increased because a short throw doesnt have all the extra pieces of rubber that the sloppy stock has :P

yeah it looks like that. Only thing is theres a rubber boot in the way so I can't see the front of the lower brackets, and I didn't want to take the rubber off cuz i think it was glued on with silicone. weird thing is, there was a metal washer just sitting loosely between the shifter and the bracket and wasn't flush against it. it seems like it was put there on accident lol. Mine doesn't *whine* it sounds more like a ball bearing that is rolling...hard to explain. But I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it to rattle at high speeds/revs

That ring is supposed to be UNDER the gasket. And that gasket shouldn't be siliconed, it should have a piece of metal that it is stapled to, and that metal is bolted into the car's frame. i would take a picture, but I'm taking a trip tomorrow, I'll look around for an install how to for ya. But that tri-ax is installed incorrectly. My recommendation, take it out, get a gasket from Mr. Bob's gasket (someone help me with the website?) and reinstall it. The Tri-ax is a great shifter, but if the metal washer was installed wrong, it makes me wonder if they bothered with the stop blocks and setting them correctly.....

RE: noisy shifter
I want to get an MGW shifter, but I have so many other things to spend money on right now
anyways, I could be wrong...maybe my memory is shady, or maybe I'm semi retarded. I'll take a pic tomorrow and I have some other issues that need to be addressed as well :/
