P0340-replaced camshaft sensor but still got the code

a little history first, my car was running jerky and stupid and it turned out be the camshaft position sensor...or so i thought, because i changed it and the car ran great, but a few days later the same code popped up - P0340 and it's running like a pig again [:@]

Now my question is what the hell can this be? i checked the connection and sprayed some electrical cleaner in it for good measure to no avail. could there be a problem with the harness itself? this thing is killing me, my mileage dropped to 11 miles per freaking gallon!!!

I looked it up in my digital manual and it's very possible. There were alot of checks like voltage and OHM's but it did say this.
VR type sensors are susceptible to electrical interference (noise). Harness shielding, where present, should be reinstalled properly when removed for testing.

I have a 1999 mustang with the same problem camshaft sensor is bad and needs replacement. I was told a tool is needed to replace it. Is it needed or do I have to buy it too? Cause this be a fuse problem or does it need replacing?[:@]
