Default Shifter problem update!

I recently made a thread on how noisy my shifter was and was wondering which short throw it was. We came to a conclusion that the noise is normal for most short throws because of the lack of rubber insulation parts. BUT, there were a couple of problems that I could not figure out or ask about because I needed pics. The most important problem right now is that there is a metal washer that is loosely sitting on the shifter. Also, while trying to put the shift cover back on, I ripped the top of the rubber off [:@] Well, I finally got some pics and hopefully you guys can help me out

i think in your year you need to cut a small piece of the rubber and use that gasket and to seal it. i think but that noise problem isnt from what you said. becuase in the 3650 transmission my rubber piece fits nice and snug like stock on my mgw. soo its just the shifter in general. it doesnt bother me that much. yours might be louder then mine but mine isnt that loud at all.

well if you cant figure out what is for then did you just let it sit there? if its not in use just put it on the side. its doin no good probly just raddling around on your shifter. iono my mgw didnt come with a washer and i wouldnt have a clue what its for.

I thought I explained this to you before man. See that metal bracket on the edges of the shifter? Get a (I think it's 10mm) socket, and remove it, then pull that washer and gasket up and out. (you may have to remove the shfiter handle, should be self explanitory). That washer is designed to prevent the gasket from getting bound up in the shifting mechanism. So, take the washer and put it on the shifter, then replace the gasket. This should decrease some of the rattling noise, and will make sure the shifter is intalled correctly. If you have time, you can pull the four bolts out that hold this shifter to the trans, and reseal it wiht some high temp rtv sealant. My guess is that your shifter was installed half-a**ed. WIth that done, replace the shifter, bolt it down, put the washer on, put the gasket on, bolt IT down, then reattach the handle (lower posistion for shortest throw, higher for more driver comfort), repop the boot/console assy, screw ur **** back on and viola!. As for that thing near the ****... I dont have one either :P
