i personally know nothing about fuel filters. I bought the car used and its a 2003...so its prolly 3 years old??

fuel filter is probably fine depending on milage unless somewhere along the lines there was some baaad gas. I'd start withcleaning the MAF and checking all the vacuum connections and all the air intake tube connections.

also depends on were you live, like here in the south bad gas is common, so you need to replace the f/f about every 15,000 miles or year.
