Default Hesitation...

My car has a tendency to start real rough. It turns over, but before it actually starts and gives that first rev...it clicks real fast a dozen times or so, then it bearly starts, like you turn...ccchhh chhhh cchhhh chhh (let go of key)........... .......................VERRRRM

Need Help on how to work out that rough spot

sounds like you may have a dirty MAF, studied those in my sensors class and we talked about the problem you describe being caused by a dirty MAF. particularly on Fords

buy some electrical spray cleaner they sell at a computer store, remove it and gently spray it clean. check the screen in front of it for debris and also check the air filter. This is a good place to start

ok that's fine, just check the MAF. electrical cleaner works fine, just take it out and gently spray it off on both sides and reinstall. they are VERY sensitive

How old is your fuel filter? It can cause a hard start like that if its clogged, takes it a little extra time to build the proper fuel pressure.

never hurts to check the maf too, pocket lint can make one go crazy.
you are right though, start with the basics and easy stuff first before getting technical.
