there is a speed limiter on them but that can be removed with a tuner.

A governor has really nothing to do with wheel size...it just stops the engine from going any higher then a certain speed. Not exactly sure where the governor is at but it's past 140 so why bother removing it? Where the hell are you gonna do that?

I had heard that the GTs with 16" wheels had a governor at 125. My 99 GT came with 16 inchers, but I've never actually tested that.

Governor is not related to wheel size. It doesn't matter what wheels you have on a speed limited car. Most new cars that are governed are electronically limited to a certain speed, but not via the wheels.

Didn't the SN95 GT's have 16" wheels stock? My friends 98 did. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the speed limiter. Plus his GT wasn't limited anyway, and I've never heard of any GT's that were.

New cars are governed to certain speed by the BASE tire speed rating. Example, 96 and newer tauruses are governed to 112. Why? Because the speed rating of the tires is 112. Basically they dont want you to exceed the limitations of the car.
At any rate, on my friends 93 LX if you held the off button on the cruise control it would shut off the speed control (governor, limiter, whatever). Im not sure if this still holds true for the OBDII cars, but hey you could try it.

That's right, I forgot all about that. I knew how they were governed, but couldn't remember the reason.

Yeah tires are super important, seeing as theyre the only thing on your car that actually contacts anything else. I never have and never will put cheap tires on any of my cars, so for all of you running Kelly Chargers cuz theyre cheap, well I guess you get what you pay for. theyre not a good tire by any stretch of the imagination, get Dunlops theyre WAY better and relatively inexpensive.
