Default What to do with the automatic tranny?

as we all know the Automatic transmission that they threw into the mustang is a piece of crap. After seeing my dyno numbers and realizing that i am getting 249rwhp out of around 300 at the crank it made me realize how crappy it is. Is there anything that can be done or is it a lost cause?

the right torque converter will give you around 20ish rwhp back =)

i think its due to a lot less rotating mass in the drive train, not sure how close to 20 you will see, 10-15, 20 if your lucky

$750ish for a good torque converter and around $90-100 for a good shift kit.

the install for shift kits will run 3-500$, and the tq. convertor, mmm, i'd say bout the same.

i have a shift kit and love it, cant wait for the tq converter, just need the money. im pretty sure you dont gain that hp either, its just something you get back from drivetrain loss. i dont know if all tq convertors are the same but i saw one with dyno's showing it gained 15-20 hp

Torque convertors actually decrese dyno numbers... Shift kits don't increse horsepower, they just make the trans shift faster and a bit harder... It's not about what numbers you put down on a dyno, it's about what you run at the track...
For instance, I have a friend with a 700hp Supra that runs high 10's, but my other friend has a 500hp, low 9 second Mustang.... It's all about how efficient the car is and how your parts work together... Good luck

Also you have to remember those cars are rated at 260 to the crank... You are making decent numbers for a bolt on car... I'd say your numbers are close to right, I wouldn't complain if I was you If you figure you are losing 15% through the drive train you are making around 287 at the crank.... 27HP out of a few bolt ons are pretty impressive...
