Default K&N Air filter

How much horsepower can I gain from replacing my factory air filter with a K&N filter? I have an '02 GT, and have just started suttle modifications, so I am curious as to know how much truth is there in what I've heard about 105hp gains? This # seems to be a little outrageous, I was thinking more like 5, but any insite will be appreciated?

a drop in filter replacment won't give you much if any extra power. although the filter is less restrictive, the air still has to go through that restrictive intake. it's really not worth anything to do it unless you dont care about getting a bunch of power, and are more turned on by the fact that they last forever as long as you pull it out and clean it once in a while.

You can remove the air silencer part of the intake (where the restriction is) and gain some HP. But you will only really notice any gains in the higher RPM's. Much better off just putting a CAI on that gets air from the fenderwell (cold air).

Build your own damn intake system...f**k the kits. Overpriced and underpowered.

It's not that hard.

if you want a CAI, you can even find custom made ones on Ebay!! people actually put them together and sell them, but make sure you get one from a guy who will give you all the parts and hook ups for sensors and such. usually they go for like 50-75, and work as good as any other, and are usually polished, so they look pretty good. most people, with an untrained eye and limited knowledge on brand nameswont even know its home made unless you tell them.

I was going to get a Mass Air Meter from Anderson Ford Motorsport, but I am still debating on that. If I get one, I will probably get a 70mm throttle body that is not too large. Thanks again. Oh...btw...I called about March about one of their ram air kits, and they did not recammend one for me. The said that since my car is so low (Eibach pro-kit 1.5in drop), and I was primarily driving on the street, I would be taking in a lot of road garbage in the duct. Needless to say...I opted not to. Any thoughts?

I totally agree with you Jeep. I built one for my 02 Dakota 4.7 out of PVC pipe and a connical K&N. Total cost of about $50, maybe a bit less.

What about Paxton? I heard they work well with Ford Mustangs.

Use ABS plastic. PVC when heated released chlorine gas. Deadly s**t .

Want the "ram air" effect? Go buy a shaker for a Mach 1 (I'm sure Ford Racing or the dealership could hook you up). Not only is it a fucntioning cold air intake, but it looks cool as f**k to see a scoop that shakes with the motor.
