launching an automatic

RE: launching an automatic
I think you really only have two choices, Drive or 1st. You don't want to do anything like a neutral drop. That's horrible for your trasmission. I would say just leave it in Drive and get used to how hard you can jump on the accelerator so as to not cause excessive tire spinning.

I personally.........
Take O/D off of course... Put it in 1st... left foot on the brake...right foot on the gas... YOu'll have to experiment at what RPM you can push it to before the car starts rolling and so that your tires don't spin. When you wanna go...foot off the brake and slam down on the gas (again...you'll have to see how far you can push the gas right off the bat). Works better than a dead start...not as good as a manual drop though.

RE: launching an automatic
I have an 02 GT Automatic that dynos out at 267rwhp. That figure came about using every conceivable bolt on possible along with 3:73's. If I used full break in 1st and rev it to say 2000 rpm - or just before the wheels break- and then let go of the break and gun the gas, man, I'm doing nothing but spinning wheels for at least 4 seconds. I spin wheels for at least 2 seconds just gunning it from a standing start with out breaks. My tires are 255 40 17's Nitto 555's. The way I found launching best with an automatic is to apply the break and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm. When you let off the break, give it about 1/2 throttle for a second and then give it eveything. Passing gear will then kick in very strong and your Stang will then give all she has.
I just ordered a Vortech Supercharger from CA. I am expecting it next week sometime. I am having it professionally installed. With all bolt ons --C&L Plenum, BBK 75mm TB, headers, Magna X, and Mac Cats, I expect in the neighborhood of 380 rwhp. I am hoping that I can hook up the C&L Inlet Pipe to the Supercharger into the Plenum as I just paid good bucks for the set up. My 85mm mass air meter will be replaced by a Pro Am meter and the injectors will be replaced by 46lbs injectors. My Steada underdrive pulleys will come off and the stock ones will replace them. Also the fuel pump will be switched as well.
I never driven any car with more power than my Stang so I hope I learn the do's and do not's real quick. I know that some things I did with my 267 hp GT simply can not be repeated with 130 more rwhp. If anyone can offer insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.
