gears--auto vs. stick
i'm definitely going with 4.10 gears. but just for knowledge, what is the difference in having an auto vs. a 5 speed? i've heard it both ways. i've heard that having and auto, you should definitely go with 4.10's because it would be like having 3.73's in a manual. and i've heard that if you have an auto you should go with 4.10's because it would be like having 4.30's in a manual.
what does the finial ratio end up being? i would think it would be higher being that it's only 4th gear rather than 5th...but they're both OD gears? i dunno i'm confused about the difference. can someone help me out?

RE: gears--auto vs. stick
Well think about it logically. With a manual you have 5 gears. So the ratios are going to be steeper, so you wont need as radical of a gear in the *** end(3.55,3.73). An AOD only has 4 gears, so the gears are "longer" so youll need a steeper (4.10) gear in the *** end to get good acceleration out of it. Not to mention 1 of the 4 gears in an auto is overdrive so technically thats not a gear for accelerating, just for gas milage. If I were you I would go with other engine mods first to get more power then get your gear. Youll notice that when you have more power you dont need such a steep gear(4.10) to get the car moving along. But the choice is up to you. I run mid, high 13's witha 3.27. I bet if I put a 3.55 or 3.73 in there Id be in the 12's easy, but I dont want to compromise my gas milage onthe highway, not to mention I like top speed over acceleration anyway.

that's pretty much the idea that i had. but with the money that i get (very little) i want gears because it'll be a while before i have enough mods that i don't need gears.

WEll for the cost of the gears + install, you could probably get a cat back flowmaster system, would make it sound really nice, and chip. The chip will give it more power not to mention itll change your shift points, and overall timing curve. Itll pick up quite a bit just from that alone, probably pretty close to what the gear would give you.
