QUick question about chrome..

QUick question about chrome..
I had a good friend of mine just get something put on his chrome rims... and it pretty much made him need to get new ones... for the life of me, can't figure out what someone put on em for this to happen.. any ideas?

a buddy of mine walked out to his car this morning... and someone put something on his chrome rims, and its like eating the chrome away - he brought it to a rim shop, and they told him that the rim was basically damaged beyond repair... that if they repaired it, he'd be spending more money then buying new ones... lol - i have no idea what could've done this?

so if someone walked up around midnight last nite and sprayed a bunch of brake cleaner on the rims, by the morning it would've stripped all the chrome off?
