Default Stock GT 5spd vs. Stock GT auto

Ok, i have a GT convertible with auto transmission and a K&N and my friend has a GT convertible with 5spd Manual, we were just driving down the highway and i decided to speed up a little and then i noticed him speeding up so i basically floored it and even tho i was ahead of him and the car had downshifed he still passed me... What do i need to stop this? Will some 3.73 or 3.90 gears and a diablo tuner fix this? Thanks

yes it will
get 4.10's and a tuner. because you're an auto, you should definitely get 4.10's. i'd tell a 5 speed to get 4.10's over 3.73's. but and auto is 100% no doubt 4.10's

well one thing im concerned about is decreasing the top speed with 4.10 gears... As well as gas mileage... the car is daily driven too...

your top speed really isn't going to decrease

and for gas, no matter what gear you put in, it's going to go down. 4.10's only get the rpm's 200 maybe 300 faster than 3.73's. so your gas isn't going to be much better with 3.73's than it would 4.10's

there are many people out there that have 4.10's and love them. AND there are people out there that have 3.73's and wish they had 4.10's.

Will traction be an even larger issue with the 4.10's?

You're not going to notice that much of a gas milage loss. Maybe a couple of miles per gallon. Definitely worth it. Also, you could buy a shift kit which makes the shifts in an auto much firmer.

The shift kit doesn't improve the shift timing, it just shifts firmer and it feels as if you were shifting gears in a 5-speed.

If your decide later on to go with a s/c or do sum serious head work in increase hp then yea you will def hav some traction problems with the 4.10s but as long as your going to stay pretty much stock or jus a few bolt ons then you'll be fine and love them

And there are people like me that have 3.73's and are extremely happy with them and don't want anymore.
