Default 5-speed is it worth it?

Hey everyone I am looking for a mustang and am planning on getting one in about 3-4 weeks. I am mainly looking for a 2001+ Mustang GT convertible 5-speed the only problem is there is not that many around. Actually there are no 5 speed GT's in my area that are not heavily modded or are in my price range. My question is how bad is an automatic I really really want a 5-speed but is their really that much difference in the way it performs. Should I just wait for the right stang or just settle for an automatic. Also their are plenty of coupes in the area that have 5-speeds but I kind of wanted a convertible but is their that much of a performance difference between a coupe and a convertible that it would be worth it to get the coupe instead. TO sum it up should I wait for a GT convertible 5-speed or should I just settle for an automatic convertible or a 5 speed coupe. Finally do you think I might be aiming to high with my budget of about 14K should I be looking for an older car or do you think I could find a good car in that price range. Thanks for all your feedback.

P.S.- High mileage does not matter as much becasue if I really enjoy the car I will be putting in a forged engine next year along with a stage 1 turbo and a TKO 600.

The 5 speed "fun factor " is well worth it for me but it also depends on your intended use. If you will drive everyday on a long cummute in stop and go traffic , the 5 speed may get old.

It will be pretty much a daily driver but I don't have that long of a drive to work anyways so the car will mainly be used for fun.

Agreed, stop and go traffic is VERY old... my leg gets tired playing with my clutch... but If you do hwy driving, i'd recommend the 5spd. You can also look into the cost of getting an entire rebuilt t3650 bellhousing to driveshaft and put that in. Not sure how much it'll cost, but it can't be tooo much. I personally cant drive auto trans anymore, they drive me nuts... If you are a good stick driver, and want a stick, wait for it. If you can settle with a 4spd AT... go for it :-/

you could get the auto and get a trans go shift kit with manual valve bodies, then you will have a clutchless stick

+1, if you want manual get one, ull get bored with the auto if a 5-spd is what u really want... dont settle for anything less than exactly the car u want. be patient or ull always have that feeling of could have had in teh back of your mind. 5 spd mustangs are quite abundant, just keep ur eyes peeled.

Yea, the 5-speed NEVER gets old, even in that stop and go traffic, you may hate yourself for that point in time, but...

Just think... you could have an Auto!?!!? How boring -- Wait and get the 5-speed.

i agree wait for what you want. i personally have a 5 speed and would never trade it for an auto. as far as price range, i got my 02 coupe for around 14k. don't know how much of a price difference there would be for a vert.
