Default Alright 4.6 JUNKIES!!!

My buddy just got a 97 GT with a 4.6 (THAT I KICKED HIS *** IN I MIGHT ADD) and hes considering a set of the PI heads but swears up and down he needs a whole EVERYTHING down to the computer.I say bull **** its a head swap straight foward and simple.

Whats the deal here guys?Does he need a whole damn donor car to get everything or can i swap these heads on and run it and it be ok?

Its a 2v 97 4.6 into a 5 speed.

Id like a list of parts needed for the swap from those who have done this "I THINK" or "I HEARD" wont work.

I don't see why he'd need everything up, but he will need a reflash, because he's brining in more air, & he'll probably want to consider 30lb injectors, so a reflash would be beneficial to get the most from his car.

While he's doing head work, he should consider cams too...Heads/Cams are next on my list of 'ricer' mods lol

That was my guess. But he thinks theyre two different motors.

We argued this so i said ill ask here.

I figured a chip, and a bigger set of injectors as well as maybe a better intake while it was apart.

But since im not as familiar with the 4.6's as 5.0's and oldschool setups i thought id ask you guys.

I was going to suggest a different intake setup as well, but I don't know much about his 4.6 engine. I've a 2002 model, & I have the C&L upper intake plenum, & I am going to get the lower intake when it becomes available in June. I talked w/C&L, & it's for 99+ models only, so for all you guys/gals w/pre 99 models...sorry.

Why would you need new injectors? I think the #19 ones would be fine as that's what comes w/ the stock +99's...correct?

New chip + tune = BINGO!

but keep in mind, with all that extra air going into the engine, you are going to need a free flowing exhaust to let it all out...long tubes, off road pipe, good cat back

No no, the engines are the same. The only internal difference will be a higher compression ratio because I believe the 99+ Mustangs have dished pistons. Other than that he does not need a new computer, but like was mentioned before it would be beneficial to have it reprogrammed. The heads will bolt right up and he'll use the same chain drive and all that. A new intake IMO is a must because a 99+ intake will match the PI intake ports. He can order a whole kit for about $1,500 from several places, and it includes everything he will need to do the swap, including the heads and intake.
