New 3v heads on a 4.6?
I believe the new '05 4.6 is still SOHC, simply w/ 3v heads giving it 300hp at the crank. Will those heads be compatible w/ the older 4.6? If so, I would seriously consider holding off my head swap until '05/'06 if I can gain that extra hp... is it possible to swap the 3v heads/valvetrain onto the older 4.6?

NO, I wish they would be, that would be awesome. The new 4.6 engines on the new mustangs use variable valve timing (basically like VTEC, but FORD, all companies have their versions). What it does is basically kind of like advancing your timing, it lets your engine operate more efficiently at higher RPM's.

I actually read in the new 5.0 that it IS possible to install the 3V heads, BUT they are not going to bolt right on. Physically they will bolt right up, but apparently you will have to creat manifolding for the the intake, & exhaust, then make a plate to flow oil back to the cams from the front of the heads where Ford directs it to actuate variable cam timing. This article also notes that you would lose the variable cam timing functionality. This article can be found on page 88 of the June '04 issue.

*UPDATE* Ford say you will be able to do it the the varialble valve timing will not be optional, and will be very expensive, might as well buy a cobra motor and swap it. HOpe this helps
