Default 04 Tranny stuck in 4th

My mom was comming back from florida and was getting on a on ram and the transmission would not shift out of 4th gear. She left it in alabama and took a rental....

NOW what is wrong with this transmission could it be the shift forks, syncros, or some other item that is fixable without having to get a new transmission. This is on a 04 stang with about 49,000 miles on it. let me know if anyone has a idea?

okay... does the shifter feel real loose when you try to go to 3rd gear? how about the other gears?

It sounds like something got fugdoodled with the shift fork for 3rd/4th. I know on my T45 there are a lot of places that could cause that, not sure about the 3650 but its a problem that will have to be dissassembled to really find out what's wrong and properly fix it

They are picking it up as we speak, from what she describes to me, it is stuck in gear. IT won't get out and it is firmly stuck in that gear. I'm leaning towards a fork at this moment, but I'm not sure. I hope they get a estimate before hand because if the price is pretty steep they can get a rebuilt t56 for around 1700 which is stronger.

well if it is actually STUCK there, it could be a binding fork or the synchro hub itself is fried.

i'd go with that tranny because rebuilding the stock one would cost too much $ to be worth it, when for a li lmore you can get a beefy one

I found a kit at ddperformance for $1900 that includes a rebuilt t56, bellhousing, driveshaft, and crossmember...all you have to do is donate your Tremec TR3650 to em as a core. Surly to rebuild a Tremec TR3650 won't be over that much would it?

well the cost to rebuild my T45 was quoted at $1500. I'm sure the 3650 is the same if not more, it's a bit more complex trans.

Get that kit and usually a tranny R&R is around 300-400

Well obviously I like to spend money more then you Actually re-building the transmission is the only thing I didn't do myself. I ported heads, cams, gears but I fear the transmission

i did 90% of it myself. Had to have some help pressing the synchros on and off, mainly becuase I don't have a press. You would be surprised how remarkably simple the T45 is.

I haven't done much engine work to my car yet. Next in line is replacing my valve stem seals. I'm gonna run the stocker motor into the ground then put in a forged long block and go FI after college.
