Default Autometer gauges?

I want to install some autometer gauges. I do not have a SC or Nitrous, just a PI head swap w/ cams. I am getting my car professionally tuned and was wondering if the one gauge I am interested is a waste.
Here is a link: http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...gid=3607&sid=2
It retails around $390.00.
I mainly want the gauges because I like the way they look. I have also had a problem running rich so I would like to keep a track of my ratios.

Would installing this gauge after a tune mess the tune up or just be pointless because it is already tuned? Thanks

How could it possibly mess up the tune? It's a gauge with a sensor, closed circuit. It shouldn't effect anything else in ANY car.

If you have a proper tune, you shouldn't need a wideband O2 sensor, it doesn't hurt to have, but not necessary. If you were tuning it yourself (laptop and handheld tuner) this wideband O2 would be a REQUIREMENT.

For the price of that gauge I'd be well on my way to getting some long tube headers.

So even though the gauge is capable of adjusting my air/fuel ratio you do not need to adjust that when installing it. It says about taping into the ECU or something when installing. This will not send a different signal to my computer when the gauge is hooked up. It says about setting your ratio when installing. Is this gauge overkill. I just want a a/f gauge w/ a (digital) "14.7" or someting reading. Thanks

It's not capable of adjusting your A/F ratio, what it means is that you can set the lean/rich range that it reads (for the LEDs). The install is for the narrowband O2 sensors... the Wideband has a separate sensor which you must tap into your exhaust somewhere. A wideband is the only way to get an accurate reading. Autometer sells a narrowband O2 sensor which you can tap an ECU wire to get a reading for. These gauges can NOT adjust the A/F ratio in any way though, they are just sensors.

Ok well the one I want comes with the wideband. What is the point for setting the range it reads. does the ratio vary that much throughout the RPM's. Thanks for the input so far. I am beginning to understand how this stuff works.

In any case the a/f gauge is almost useless on your car. The only reason people (usually) run a a/f gauge is because they are running some sort of FI, and on a FI car a lean condition is deadly.

This type of a/f gauge is usually just a light show anyway. Unless it is a true wideband O2 it is just giving you bs readings.

If I were you I would get some other gauges that don't cost as much, or just say screw it and buy some other mod.

It does say it is a wideband sensor, and comes with an oxygen sensor separate... so it could be. It's a little on the cheap side, and coming from autometer, it's surprising... but AutoMeter's narrowband sensor that you tap an ECU wire for is only $70.

in any case he doesn't need a a/f sensor on a n/a car.
