Questionable quote from Alt. Auto
Attention Metro Detroiters,
I just got a really good deal on some PI heads so I thought I would call Alternative Auto in Michigan to get a installation price after i take the heads to a rebuilder to make sure they are good. These guys told me it would be around $2,000 for a PI head swap. From being on here I know that can't be right. Any help on this?

RE: Questionable quote from Alt. Auto
I know I am thinking that if a PI head swap is going to cost that much wouldn't it be better to just swap in a whole new motor?
And as common as a PI swap is on the 96-98 stang in this forum I doubt if everyone is shelling out around $2K a piece. [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

RE: Questionable quote from Alt. Auto
mechanics SHOULD charge 60-100$ per hr, and NO MORE. if it takes them more than 10 hrs to swap heads, tell them they are jokes, and should go back to school. i could do it for you in 10hrs with 1 hand tied behind my back, and i'd charge ya 80, so that would be 800$ sir. k thx

RE: Questionable quote from Alt. Auto
Okay I was going to take it to Alt. Auto because I thought they were reasonable along with being experts. I do have my own personal mechanic that is ASE certified and did valve cover gaskets and some other internal engine work on my 95 Taurus SHO, so I am pretty sure he knows what he is doing and he quoted me around $1100 for the head swap labor.
Sounds alot better to me, even though he had to look in this huge book from ford that tells you how long in hours every repair should take.........I think a head change was about 17 hours though.

17 hrs for a slow man! they said it would take me 4-6 hrs to change my intake manifold, try 2...maybe 2.5. even with minor complications.
for a first timer it should take 17 hrs, and i mean first time changing heads period, not just on modular engines.
