No Oil
A guy I know has a Cobra motor that was in a Mustang, and the guy who put it in dident relise the motor was shipped with no oil. He ran the car down the street and the back to the dealer, round trip was less than 1 mile. What I was wondering was how much damage could have been done to the motor, and what would need to be fixed on it. Give me the worst case senerio, becuase I am thinking of buying the motor from the guy and fixing it and then put it in my car or just sell it, he said I could buy it for $200, is that too much? He says he thinks it is like a 97 or 98 Cobra motor.

RE: No Oil
The driving distance may only have been a mile, but he probably idled it a while before & after the trip, right? It all adds up.
Yea fill it up with oil, drive it around a bit while listening/smelling for problems, then drain the oil & check it out. If it smokes like a SOB while driving it, the rings are gone & the cylinder walls might be fried, not to mention how the crank/cam bearings might be..

RE: No Oil
If he'll let you, fill it with oil, attach a good oil pressure guage and see what the pressure is. Then do a compression test. The clearances on these motors are really tight and it doesn't take much to burn up the crank journals, cam journals in the heads and rings. If those are wiped out then it be quite expensive and would basically need a complete rebuild, good luck.
