you guys crack me up... cars cut out when they're low on fuel because the fuel line/pump catches air thus causing an air bubble in the line which kills the car, not an 'empty gas' sensor. Low fuel level may be something to consider as a cause.
Here's something you can try in a safer environment (huge parking lot?), run the car near empty and drive around in sharp circles or turns. If it cuts out again and you can make the car do it a couple of times then you know you have a fuel delivery problem. You may have a week pump (needs to be replaced) or you just need to keep you gas guage at a higher level from now on.
Add: Get a code scanner too or have autozone run a code scan for free. Things like that sometimes store a code in the computer that takes a few times to happen before it throws the 'check engine' light.
