RE: slotted or cross drilled rotors

I have always heard that slotted are much better for a DD than drilled, because with repeated stop and go traffic over a long period of time the driled can crack.

I got slotted and drilled rotors, I've braked them real hard a couple times and no issues yet. $75 a piece. My only complaint is that they weren't zinc coated, so they get rust lines. They're by uhh... Raybestos.

iROTORS are the best I have seen for the money.

http://stores.ebay.com/iROTORS-Performance-Brakes

It is an ebay brand but I have heard good things. They ARE zinc coated so they won't rust. I am about to order a set for myself.

They look to be about $85 a piece, not bad. As long as the construction of them is fairly solid, they'll be good. It's hard to produce a bad rotor.

My friend has some for his camaro. Hes had them for over a year and they still look nice and shiny. Drastically improved his braking.

Is it true that you cannot cut CD/S rotors and need to get a new set every pad change?

i like the look of the cross drilled but i dont want something that breaks easy and has to be replaced all the time.. aaaahhhh decisions decisions

RE: slotted or cross drilled rotors

i dont think cross drilled rotors crack anymore. I think it was a problem with them drilling holes too large and/or too close together, but ive never heard of any quality rotors having problems. Slotted rotors chew up your pads, so there's a downside to slotted.

My dad put iRotors on his GTP, it stops so amazing. here are a few pics of the install:

drilled stayes cooler? or what

But can they be cut or are new ones required with every pad change??

RE: slotted or cross drilled rotors

no you dont need new ones every time you change the brake pads. and you dont need to have the rotors trued everytime either.

I have the FRPP cross drilled/slotted rotors and i like them, no problems yet and i've had them on for around 5 months

Drilled is supposed to release the gases and dust from hard braking, which helps cool them down. The only real downside I have heard about drilled rotors, is they almost act like a cheese grader, they improve braking, but they eat pads fairly quickly.

thats why you get the duralast gold ceramics that have a life time warranty;) keep taken em back

also, v6's and v8's can use the same rotors, correct? ive seen listing where they say 94-2004 v6 and v8 gt, so im assuming they are all the same. they try to charge more too...

What do you mean they dont need to be cut? For new pads.. yeah they do... Dont they?

if i get bigger brakes...like 13" will i need different calipers?

drilled is as described previously, slotted help the dirt/water to get pushed somewhere else other than under the pad surface along with the drilled. Slotted (the fins) are for cooling.

In some cases. You may also need new rims if the new rotor/caliper configuration don't have enough clearance. Always double check with the manufacturer. Baer makes a 13" brake kit and specifically states you need a rim other than a factory one for proper fitment.

get the slotted and dimpled ones... when the dust gets on the dimples it looks like theyre drilled, and they still provide some of the same benifits of the drilled ones
