transmission noise.. any ideas?

i changed my shifter towards the end of last year, to a B&M. i noticed it made more noise than stock, but i didn't have a whole lot of time to play around and get used to it. now, a few months into this season, it's still making noise, but something occured to me the other day, it doesn't seem right. i honestly don't remember what noise it made last year. but enough of that, on to the problem..

when i'm going above 30-ish, i can hear a whining sound, that rises and falls with RPM. it does it whether i'm in gear or not, clutch engaged or not. nothing changes it, except hitting my brakes. when i hit my brakes, it almost completely goes away. i was thinking it was the shifter resonating noise, but with it going away with hitting my brakes, it's got me curious right now.

i suppose this COULD be a good opportunity for that 6 speed upgrade... :) either way, if you have any ideas or have the same thing going, help me out!
