Default Brakes

I have a 97 gt and i wanted to get some new front brakes and rotors for it, without killing my wallet, and without crashing cuz my breaks are ****. So does anyone have some good ideas on what to get. The ford oem are like 140 each and the ford dealer recommended motorcraft for 93 each and the motorcraft pads are 57 a pair. Is it worth getting the motorcraft rotor and then the ford oem pads or are there cheaper things for better?
