Default 2000 GT Mustang

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I just bought a 2000 Black GT Mustang. It is a manual transmission. I can drive it fine but, when I race someone it has too much torque in first gear and I have trouble getting off the line without spinning my tires. I have raced a z28 Camaro and he got the jump on the start because I was burning out, but I still caught up and won.<IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> Any tips on this would help me a lot. thanks

well there's a few things we can look for here. first off all, are you tires worn out, or if they aren't, are they cheap and made of hard rubber that compromises traction. secondly, when you first take off, are you starting just like you normally do, or are you lauching it at a higher rpm (above 3 grand). you might be trying to start at too high an rpm if your lauching. stock stangs typically do well between 2 and 3 grand. my money right now is your clutch work. remember, you can NEVER have too much torque!

whats up, Im not dumping the clutch and I launch at like 1500 rpm, so its not that, I have Falken high performance tires to I dont think its that. I thought that I just had to much torque in first gear, but I guess not. I guess it is just clutch work. I am working on it though. Thanks for all your tips.</P>

What works good for me is keepin my rpms around 2500-3krpm and then judging on how warm your tires are can help you to get off to a fast start w/a minimum of wheel spin if you feather your clutch properly. I had a similiar problem w/a Z28 at 1500rpm. I still won, but it was not until 3k in 2nd that I started pulling on him. Hope this helps.

What GSXR said. I'm one of the kings of traction problems...kindof comes with havinga big block pushing over 500 horses in a half-ton truck. Feathering to the feel of your car is a big help. Unfortunately for me, feathering is extremely hard on the street now<IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">. At the track I run consistent 2.0 60' with no tractions aid and wornout BFGs.</P>

Justang got it right. You can NEVER have too much torque. Launching is the hardest part to racing. You just need to work on your launching skills. Listen to some of the suggestions above. They will help.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">
