Default Thermostat question

I put a 180 degree thermostat in my car back in September when I switched my intake manifold out. Now that it is warming up outside (98 today), my car doesnt run anywhere near 180. It stays up around 205-210, and when I run my a/c, it goes up another 5-10 degrees. This is in traffic or on the highway. Is this a normal thing or should I maybe replace the thermostat and flush my coolant system?

180 thermostat doesn't mean the car is going to run at 180 that is the temp that the cooling system is allowed to circulate through the block.

By the way yes 205-210 is a normal temp. Which I don't know how you know unless you have an aftermarket temp gauge.

yea I have an autometer water temp, fuel level, and voltmeter gauge. I just wanted to make sure this was normal because in the winter and most of the spring, my car stayed around 180-185 even with the AC on.

2 things you need to do to run cooler...

get a tuner, or if you have one, make the fan turn off at 181 and on at 189 or something like that.

and get an oil cooler, that will help your engine run a lot cooler. i got a tranny cooler on my auto and my overall engine temp dropped 5-10 degrees, since the tranny fluid returning to the radiator wasnt as hot when circulated.

Yeah you will notice that the car like run hotter in hotter temp. A 205-210 temp is perfectly normal IMO

cool, thanks for the quick responses guys, i appreciate it. Also, where could I get one of these oil cooler kits from? All i've seen just now looking for them is Automatic transmission oil coolers.

with my tranny cooler, and stock thermostat, i would guess im running around 190-195, about 2-3 lines before the middle. with the a/c on, in upper 90 to 100 degree weather.

i had tried a 180 thermo, it did keep temp down till i ran it hard or when the temp outside increased. you could see it flucuate from 3-4 lines before mid and back to mid.

stock i stayed on mid or 1/2 line before.

edit:

since the tranny cooler i can say my temp is consistent.
