No oil?
so yesterday i wasa going to put in some engine restorer cuz my engine is reaching 100k... i went to check the oil and my car claimed that i didnt have any. The guy at strauss said to turn on the car and then try it...after 30 seconds of the car running, i tested it again and the dipstick was about a quarter of the way, I just changed my oil a month ago and i havent been burning any smoke out the exhaust so i dont think i was able to burn 4 quarts of oil in just a month without any signs. The strauss guy said some people had broken head gaskets after they put in an intake, has anyone ever heard of that, and how much is it to fix the gasket?

RE: No oil?
did YOU change the oil or the strauss guy.
and i would of not started the engine if it was not reading any oil.
is the car on an even surface?
is the dip stick in good looking condition, you wiping it off first, then checking again, making sure to click it in all the way, and looking in good light for a reading?

RE: No oil?
Well if it read a 1/4 on the dip stick that doesn't mean 4 quarts. The entire dipstick only reads 1 quart so if it read a 1/4 you are only 3/4 of a quart low. Also IMO the best time to check oil is before you start the car and on a level surface. Once you start the car the oil pump will pull some of the oil into the engine and you won't have as accurate of a reading.

RE: No oil?
I have a 2001 and had several ford techs say they have seen split gaskets under the heads. This has been from really abusive driving and bad vehicle maitenance.
Maybe an engine rebuild kit might be the way to go for you. Better play it safe and give your engine new life.

ya i changed the oil, and i did click it in, i dont know if the dipstick is in good condition, i guess its allitle bent on the wire but that straightens when you put it in right? and yes i was on pretty flat ground. If it is the head gasket how much is that to replace?
