my mustang is running so rich its sad. i just bought it a week ago. everything should have been fine but no its not. im getting 10-12 mpg with city and highway driving. what could be causing this? i have no cels. only mod i know of is a bassani catback. i can get the car into the shop until 2 weeks. is there anything i can do? im spending 100 a week on gas. help! also its so rich upon a warm startup it starts up. goes to 1k rpm then dies. restart it works fine but still running REALLY rich

Put a code scanner on it to see if there are any codes. I would start at the O2 sensors.

the previous owner didnt have a canned tune in it did he??

Yea you need to get some codes run. Have the car scanned at a local shop real quick. Definitely somewhat of an exhaust problem, but if you only have a catback, Im missing something.

O2 sensors, Converters, something is terribly wrong. Get some codes run ASAP, they should give you a direction.

wouldnt a bad o2 sensor throw a cel?

im a newbie to the whole mustang scene.. canned tuned? i dont have the history on it. the car looked babied honestly. motor was immaculate looking condition and body was not touched at all. the guy average like 6k a year on it.

Yeah, O2s are a good guess. Should throw code, but you never know. I doubt it has a tune in it, but hey, who knows?

alot of companies that sell hand held programmers install their own settings, most of the time they are very rich but sounds like you got other problems.

well it could be numorus things a list would be a maf sensor, you iat sensor, your fuel pressure regulator, your forward o2 sensors, like i said numorus things can cause it all should through a code and make the check engine light come on

It SHOULD throw a code, but who the hell knows. You cannot always count on that light. Get some codes run asap.

I like peanuts... sorry... yeah... not to beat a dead horse... but, it SHOULD throw codes. Get it checked ASAP.
