Default Cobra Brakes

I have a 2000 gt and am in desperate need of new front brakes. I am looking into buying eaither the ford racing 35th anniversary cobra brake upgrade kit or the 2000 cobra R brake kit. I was wondering if anyone who has eaither of these setups could tell me if the 35th ann. upgrade makes that much of a diference or should i bite the bullit and shell out the cash for the cobra r brakes.

You can buy everything seperate on ebay for a total of less than $500 shipped. That includes SS brake lines. I did it and YES going from my stock GT ones to the cobra made a HUGE difference.

I upgraded to the Cobra brakes all around... it does make a very large difference, and I made some comments in the how-to writeup that I made for the site... check the stickies in this section and take a read through it.

It does improve braking power by a good amount... plus it looks nice.

I can answer any questions you may have about the swap, feel free to PM me.

The Cobra front brake kit is not that big of an upgrade on a 99-04 GT. You already has 2 piston PBR calipers, the only real difference is the larger rotor. I'd go with the 4 piston Cobra R front brakes if i had a 99-04.

The Cobra rear brakes are not really gonna benefit you much either on a street car. The calipers are exactly the same as a V6/GT again the difference is a larger rotor that is vented. You also have to take apart the rear to mount the rear Cobra caliper mounting bracket.

Instead of a 4 wheel Cobra upgrade i'd just get the Cobra R fronts.

Done it, and it was a PITA, at least the rear swap. If I'm not mistaken the front calipers are only single piston, I'd have to go outside and look at my old calipers though... I have already forgotten and I didn't do the swap that long ago.

I did comment on how the rear brakes are the same on the how-to... Most of your stopping power doesn't come from the rear anyway, so it is not a big deal. You don't want too much brake in the rear... could get dangerous.

I did the change mostly for the appearance, opting for slotted and drilled rotors too. Really, unless you're road racing, your stock brakes are more than safe enough for street use. The Cobra ones are close to excess, you notice the difference from like 70+ MPH.

yours were 2 piston...the 96-98 have 1 piston, thats why the Cobra fronts are a huge upgrade on those cars compared to yours.
