Default Low RPMs while idle

Hello All,

I need your expertise on an issue I am having with my 99 Mustang GT. When I start the engine, the car idles at only 500 rpm and then turns off. I have to step on the gas and keep the car rev'd on 1000+ rpm to keep the engine on. Basically it seems like the engine isn't getting enough gas to stay on. After 10 minutes of stepping on the gas to keep the engine on, the car goes back to normal and will stay on with out me stepping on the gas. This has been happening for a week. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check your IAC. It might be going out or dirty. My car was doing the same thing and it was that.

my friend's 240 used to do soething similar, if his rpms dropped too fast (him putting the car in neutral) or if he didnt give it gas when he cranked it, the car would stall.

He had to give it gas at startup, and then had to down shift to slow down, he could never put it in neutral while slowing...

it was his Idle Positioning Sensor (or something like that).

Idle Air Control, as someone mentioned. Wouldn't be a bad idea to see how well your coolant temp sensor and air intake sensors are reading as well (good scanner and temp probe).
