Where is the option for a PI swap?

Is everyone forgetting this is a 96??
The reason that there is no PI option is that it raises compression which is not great for the future FI. I also want to see what I can do to the car and keep it nonPI. People will really be shocked if I have a fast car that is not PI. If and when I do heads,(now or later) I will port and polish the nonPI ones to get better flow. Then I will still have a lower compression which is good for future FI.
Check out the MM&FF story about "project redheaded step child".

In the end, they basically admitted that it was a bad idea from the start, that they should have used the PI stuff etc.

The NPI heads will definatly outflow the PI stuff, but you still either end up using a NPI intake or using adapterplates for a PI intake that rob power. I was definatly not impressed with the car after they got it all done (n/a). If I remeber right, they barely made more (or did they even get there) than 300 WHP.

I do not think the compression ratio is a super large issue like everyone makes it out to be. Isn't it like half a compression point over a PI setup? Regardless, a set of dished pistions is not that expensive if you are willing to pull the motor. If you are doing the PI swap, you basically have the motor out anyway, so why not just do it at that point?

Seriously though, unless you are super low budget (and then you will never afford a blower anyway) I would just look into a used PI engine. Shopping around on Ebay the other day I found several of em in the 1200-1700 range with fairly low milage. Some were even cheaper.

Well if you have a good bit of money you could put a sean hyland motor in it,or a 4 valve engine swap.

My wife would say to pay off the car....but I say do the heads and get the cams. I would rather have satisfaction now than later.

Paying off the car sounds like a real good deal as well. I know I wish my car was paid off, but instead I had to refi when the trans broke for the 2nd time unexpectedy

Seriously, look around ebay and check out the prices on lightly used PI 4.6Ls. They are acutally pretty fair, and you could easily upgrade to alot more power and less mialge for only a few grand.

Not to mention that you then have the better flowing heads/cams without the added compression.
