stock gears?

RE: stock gears?
My '97 GT came with a 3.08 according to the door sticker axle code. Lucky for me (I guess) someone put a whole different rear in it with a 3.27 ratio.
You can find the list of codes searching the internet, or you can get under it and look at the tag on the rear cover. On the top left hand corner is the ratio, limited slip code and ring gear size. For example a 3.27 traction loc 8.8 would look like this on the tag 3 L27 88. L meaning limited slip I guess. A non limited slip would look like this 3 27 88. The first number, like the three, is sometimes covered up partially by the bolt.
FWIW I've found no one else seems to know this, you can further verify gear ratio, without pulling the cover, by taking the fill plug out, shining a light in the hole and turning it to look for the numbers on the ring gear. I've found you can only do this on the ford 8.8.
