question about tune up (spark plugs) please advise.
hi mates,
This is regarding 2000 mustang GT. I,ve already checked the maintenance schedule, and it shows that tune up needs to be done on 100,000k which is agreeable. but I am still unaware about the plugs brand and the replacement of the spark plugs wires. I mean what type/brand of spark plugs are recommended for 2000 GT (mustang) and do we have to replace the spark plug wires and distrebutor cap, rotor etc...while replacing new spark plugs? how about NGK or BOSCH are these japanesse and german style plugs being used by any of you?

i'm running autolite 764 no problems. you don't have plug wires or a distributor, 99+ are coil on plug, just inspect the boots to make sure they are in good condition

well its kind of a tricky thing to do if your new to the 4.6. first off i used NGK iridiums and I love them they're great plugs...highly reccomend. your car doesnt have a distributor/cap/rotor. it uses ignition coils which usually dont go bad. so unless you have a cylinder that isnt firing forget about changing the ignition coils. the wires arent normal plug wires either. youll see when you change the plugs. go out and buy some good plugs. you need to start by depressurizine your fuel system. to do this you open your trunk and on the left side of the truck where the drivers side brakelight is underneath the covering you will see a little device its called a fuel pump relay. unplug the bottom wire from this. then run your car for a minute or so until it shuts off. now you have just depressurized your fuel system.then you go ahead and remove your whole air intake assembly up to the throttle body. once this is out of the way you will have some shiny silver fuel rails that run along the intake manifold. there is a small bolt on each end of these so remove the bolts and all of the connections from these fuel rails. DO NOT remove the fuel lines from the ends of the fuel rails THIS IS UNNECESSARY. rotate the fuel rails out of your way and there are going to be orangeish yellow fuel injections. in between these there should be coil on plug assemblies. they are black and they just plug onto the spark plug. go ahead and pull these out gently. now youll see the spark plugs. and hope fuly youll remember how everything goes back together. Its not as tricky as it sounds it took me about an hour. make sure you repressureize your fuel system after its all back together and watch out for the o-rings on the ends of the injectors they tend to fall off!
