Default HELP DIAGNOSE MISFIRE? **RESOLVED**!!

I brought the car to a transmission specialist for some converter work as I believed it to be a converter shudder I have read about. After he drove the car he said it was a misfire and electrical in nature was his opinion. I bought the car last month. It happens when the motor is under load especially when the tranny shifts into OD/lock-up. I noticed one coil has been replaced with a NON-OEM piece. I have not yet checked the plugs as I am not sure what plugs are best, opinions on plugs? Whatever it is it does not trip the "service engine soon". I thought I would start with plugs but if that is not it then what/how would I go then? Is there a diagnostic tool any competant garage should have that would diagnose the problem? With enough revs it goes away or becomes rather indistinguishable. Help please! Thanks, mark
Motor had 1 generic coil so I went to a pick-n-pull yard and got 2 Ford Coils at $5. each and replaced the odd coil and that was it! Praise the Lord! $5. resolved it. Now I have the $850. I had set aside for the tranny work thinking I had the infamous converter shudder. The RPMoutlet tuner/gearset w/install kit is looking mighty closer now, just a bit leary of the Motives but see Brenspeed sells them along with others so.....maybe 4.10's sonner than I thought. Thanks to all of you who read the thread and could not respond and those I directly PM'ed. mark

Default RE: HELP DIAGNOSE MISFIRE? **RESOLVED**!!

I wanted to bump this up as too often resolutions are not posted. This could also help aomeone else. What a relief, an $845. relief. Now exhausts. I deceided on Pypes catted X-pipe but want good flowing catbacks that are QUIET! Anybody have a suggestion on what would be quiet and still flow better? The latter shoulkd not be too difficult to flow more than the originals but better flow and being quiet could be a challenge, anyone with experience or knowledge in this area? Thanks, mark
