air silencer removal
I just got my gt not long ago. I dont have a whole lot of money right now for mods. I bought the car already with flowmasters. I want to remove the air silencer and get a K&N cone air filter. What kind of power will this make compared to a cold air intake? If there is only a couple hp then I'll just get a filter for now.

I'm also interested in this topic. Most everyone here rags that the CAI's don't add much power, but many also seem to have them on their cars. As far as the air silencer goes Muscle Mustang magazine has an article on their website where they did some mods to a stock 01 GT. Simply removing the silencer gave them 4 HP at the rear wheels when put on the dyno. Obviously this gain varies between cars, as all cars are slightly different, and would also vary with outside temp, but the mod is free, and simple as hell!
My question is this: would a K+N filter and the silencer removed be equal to a CAI in terms of rwhp? If they are, then why spend $150-$200 on the CAI, simply spend $30 on the K+N filter and remove the silencer for free!
Help from the more experienced folks here would be much appreciated!

wow!! 5?!?!?! Did you dyno the car stock then with mods? Did you use the same dyno? ALL dynos are differnt and are for estimation You can take your car to a dyno and put down 220rwhp and then go to a differnt dyno and put down 233rwhp.

Kits like the ones from Moroso and K&N promise "up to 18 hp" or something like that. What they don't tell you is that extra power doesn't come in until 4-5000 rpm or so. I don't know about you, but my car never sees that kind of RPM so for me it would be pointless. I guess if you were a regular racer or something it'd be worth it.
Save the money from the price of those kits to a get a set of gears, or something...
