Help with possible starter prob.
Well, I am hoping that I can get some help on this one. I was driving home and stopped to get some stuff at the store. When I turned my car on, it kept on cranking as the engine started. It continued for about 10 sec. and then I pulled the key out. Even after I turned the car off, it continued and then stopped. I tried one more time and the same thing happened.
I believe it is the starter but any guesses are much appreciated. Is it safe to drive to my garage about 2 mi. away? Where is the starter located and how hard is it to replace??? As I recall, it is a pain and is up above the tranny. Thank-you for any help.

RE: Help with possible starter prob.
could a solenoid be causing that problem instead? if it quits making the sound, i dont see why it'd hurt anything to drive it. might hurt the starter, but even that i doubt.
if its in the same place as the starter in my 2000, its a pain. not really above the transmission. get under the car, look on the passenger side near where the transmission meets the motor. thats where mine is.

it is a pain, but if you take your time and have it jacked up nice and high and have a good set of sockets, you can do it. Just disconnect the battery and all will be well
when i rebuilt my trans, I took my starter apart and cleaned and inspected everything and put a little bit of grease on all the bearings, and it made noises before and now it works great

RE: Help with possible starter prob.
If I do it myself, I will have it on the lift which is nice. I know that it in theory is easy yet, I thought that it was a pain on the SNs because of clearance issues and such. Looks like it will have to be towed from the store to get it fixed.
