Is 1st gear to short
I'm not sure if the previous swapped gears or not. I had it on a lift and the pumpkin had the 2 tabs one which had the #3.27 on it. The reason I'm not sure is from reading other posts many if not all say that 1st gear is worthless and I find this to be the case. In my old 93lx 5.0 first gear would take me to over 30mph at about 4800rpm(close to red line). On my 4.6 first gear red lines at 25mph! I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issues with first gear. Also in 5th gear with the 4.6, the rpm's seem to drop but in the 5.0 5th gear would pull until I ran out of real estate.

well let's take all of the guessing out of the equation....
put your car on a lift, spin one rear tire (one revolution), count the revolutions
of the driveshaft, this will tell you what the ratio is
"I'm not sure if the previous swapped gears or not."

I have a 2002 GT, and have been in 5th gear only a hand full of times. I just know that it pull great in 2nd - 4th and then it seems that the rpm's drop like a grand in 5th. The engine doesn't even sound the same 'tween 4th & 5th at wot (no longer screaming but drops in sound like mid range in 2nd) I will try to open her up tomorrow and will pay attention to the rpm gauge in 5th gear.

I hit about 40 mph in first gear with the stock gears (5800 rpm). To hit only 25 mph in first at redline (5800) is a really low gear...you'd pretty much have no top end whatsoever, even with the 0.68 overdrive in the 3650.
