Default 4.6 4 Valve DOHC Questions

How much horsepower can the stock 99 cobra svt handle? How much does it have from the factory and what 1/4 times can it run? The first question is the most important though. Is the bottom end (crank, rods, and piston) the same on the 2v and the 4v or is the 4v already forged? Thanks, and if u know only the answer to one question, feel freet o leave a response. Thanks, Robert

The 99's are not forged. Only the 03/04 have forged rod's and pistons.. It does have a forged crank. They can handle around 450hp or so on a stock bottom end. THe blocks in the 99 and 01's are not all that strong either. The 03/04 is an iron block, and the 96-98's have a forged teksid aluminum block...

The 99's are capable of a mid 13 but its very rare.. expect a low 14 or high 13. They come rated at 320, but there was a TSB on them. Many of them were not making the correct amount of horsepower, and had to be fixed.

My buddy had a '99 with o/r x pipe, cat back, some huge cai, superchips chip, mechanically advanced timing, and a 150 wet shot. We estimated at about 500 hp at the flywheel. Never had an issue with it.

Are you talking about a '99 cobra or GT?
